My Beautiful Birth Story

Hello, Goddesses. My baby boy just turned one and I would love to share my birth story with you.

The Beginning of my Birth Story

It is so hard to believe that a year ago today I was squeezing my husband’s hand and trying so very hard to remember all of the breathing and mindfulness techniques I learned from the youtube videos and having my first baby (none of it was working). These contractions were already hurting worse than ever with my first baby.

While lying down I felt something punch me from within and I got up and a little fluid began to leak. For the second time, my water broke at home and I learned what real pain felt like. My husband called the clinic to let them know we were on the way and I hopped in the shower (pointless I know). My baby girl was at a friend’s house because we’re military and my mother hadn’t made it from Georgia yet. Can you believe my husband said let’s just take her with us? Ummm. Do you not remember the carnage of the delivery room. Some families are cool with this but not I.

The Ride to the Hospital

In the car, I screamed obscenities and moaned and groaned as the pain grew more intense. Finally, we arrived at the clinic and my husband wheeled me upstairs and we were met by the cutest little nurse. I didn’t think she was cute after she told me I couldn’t have my epidural until she tested me to make sure my water broke. Really! After the test results proved that my water had indeed broken, she registered me (tons of questions I wasn’t up for answering), and led me to my room.

Baby in Distress

I was delirious with pain when my mother arrived after driving seven hours alone to be with me. Finally, God arrived with my drugs. And within minutes I began to feel sweet relief, except when I had a contraction I felt it in my ass. The nurse asked was I ready to push. I had no clue. Then the alarm sounded and my baby went into distress. So in rushed tons of nurses and they began to shift me from side to side as I pushed. I was terrified. What was wrong with my baby? Was I going to have to have a c-section?

Arrival of a Prince

I wasn’t making any progress pushing from my side. Somehow I started pushing on my back and the nurse was like that was awesome. So in between contractions she put me on my side so the baby wouldn’t go into distress and then when the pain built in my ass, she put me on my back and I began to push. It only took a few pushes and then she said stop. The baby’s head was out, and I had to sit there and wait for the doctor (who I learned was in a deep sleep). He finally arrived and I gently pushed baby Cairo out. He came out wailing so beautifully and then he started smacking his lips, a habit he still loves. Thank God for a healthy baby boy.
