Adopting the Lagom Lifestyle Can Create Balance

lagomYou’re probably asking, WTH is Lagom and how can it help you live Your Best Life?

Hey, Goddess. Are you seekIng to cultivate a lifestyle of balance both within your spirit and throughout your physical space? Are you mindlessly buying sale items that do not speak to your soul and your home is two Target trips from qualifying for an episode of hoarders (or is it just me)? Are you not ready to go full minimalist and live like a monk but you know you need to declutter and simplify? Well, perhaps the Lagom lifestyle is for you.

Lagom

If you keep tabs on Scandinavian design trends or have a love for minimalistic decor, you’ll adore Lagom, a lifestyle and design trend that come straight from Sweden. Pronounced “lah-gom,” Lagom means “not too little, not too much.” Like other lifestyle approaches, Hygge for example (a lifestyle I went crazy for this winter and wrote about here), it’s about balance and appreciating both natural things, and human-made things by mixing modern furniture with bright botany throughout your home.

This lagom decor guide from my friends at Invaluable helps you learn more about ways you can easily add Lagom decor to your home with a list of tips and do’s and don’ts for when you first start decorating. Start by bringing nature into your home, then adding candles throughout for a warm glow. These easy additions will not only make your home a relaxing haven to return to, but also create balance in the rest of your life!

Here are a few things I absolutely love about Lagom.

  1. You probably already have everything you need to achieve Lagom just remove the things you don’t absolutely adore (You know, Konmari Method). This leaves your space Zen-like and peaceful so you can think, create, and be calm and breathe in the simplistic beauty of your home. Cost: Free!
  2. Natural light. My favorite decorators, bloggers, and influencers on Instagram know how to capture images in natural light. My favorite houses to visit during Richmond’s Parade of Homes are bursting with natural light. Let the natural light into your home as best you can. You don’t have to pay to throw open your curtains!
  3. I think my favorite element of Lagom, besides adding natural light, is bringing in nature and plants. I love bamboo, succulents, and just about any green indoor plant that is low-maintenance. Plants instantly add a natural beauty to your space and some are known to purify the air. That’s a win-win. Check out my list of some aesthetically pleasing planters that will help you achieve Lagom.

I’ve also added seven gorgeous planters to inspire your Lagom decor.
