Wakanda V. Za

HEYYYY, Goddesses. I just got my entire life at the premiere of Black Panther and I’m ready to move to Wakanda, lol. I know you saw the awesome, full of pride, polarizing film, Black Panther. Did it make you feel amazing? Did you leave the theater overflowing with Wakandan pride? Were you like me and showed up oozing black girl magic sauce all over the theater?

Wakanda

I felt the buzzing vibration of the whole black diaspora in the air and it was beyond amazing.

Black Panther

Three years ago I envisioned my own all-black nation, Za and wrote about it in my novel The Griot. Writing my first novel made me feel like a total badass, and it was by far the most difficult thing I’d ever done. I used my travels to Kenya and a ton of research to build a world where black is beyond beautiful and the people needed no outside help building a thriving kingdom.

Black Panther

Of course, within this astounding kingdom, there’s betrayal, lies, envy, lust, and even a rebellion threatening to tear their world apart. And I thought it would be interesting to compare the two. If you haven’t seen Black Panther, SPOILER ALERT. Hurry and go see it. Did I mention the black men of Wakanda are beautiful? Read below to see how these two all-black nations compare.

It felt beyond incredible to witness the magic of Wakanda and to see and feel what it represented. Little black boys and girls having superheroes and warriors that look like them and that they can be proud of. If you’re going through Black Panther withdrawal, I would love it if you checked out my book the Griot here. #wakandaforever #zaforever. Thank you for reading my blog.
