My name is Valarie Thomas. My friends call me Val. I created The Mommie Goddess to celebrate, cultivate, and inspire the divinity within mothers. The ultimate goal of this blog is to simply make mommy life easier, whether it’s through reviews, travel adventures, mindfulness strategies, or mommy/wife successes and mishaps.
I am a middle school teacher (yikes LOL), the author of a novel called The Griot, a military wife, and most importantly a mother of two amazingly awesome children, Princess Aniya (5) and Prince Cairo (4 months). I currently reside in Hampton, Virginia, but I am positioning myself to have a location independent career, which will allow me to live anywhere I choose. I am ecstatic to claim this year as my “year of yes” and I’ve realized my ability to manifest the life of my dreams, which has changed the trajectory of my life.
I was born in Fort Bragg, NC, and because my father was in the Army I have lived and traveled all over the world. At 16 my family returned to Fort Bragg and that is where I met the boy who would become my man, my husband, and the father of my kids. I attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and graduated with a B.A. in History and Secondary Education. I also have a Masters in Contract Administration and Acquisition.
Two events led me on a spiritual path. The first experience occurred when I had my first child and I spiraled into a deep depression. The second experience was a huge break up with a friend that led me to another dark depression. It was during this darkness that I saw an ad for one of Oprah and Deepak Chopra’s 21 Day Meditation Challenges. Sadly, I remember the challenge started on the day Robin Williams committed suicide. That meditation opened up a whole world of mindfulness to me and truly altered my life for the better.
I believe that the universe is there to help all of us craft the lives of our dreams. We just have to let our higher selves shine and get rid of those people who tear us down and drain your energy. Once we focus our intentions on what we truly want there will be inspiration everywhere.
I’m always yearning to grow and educate others. Join me why don’t you.
